Port Elizabeth's name has been changed to Gqeberha. We spoke to Bongani Makwetu a resident from Missionvale, Gqeberha(Port Elizabeth). Bongani had the following to say about the name change: "I am very happy! I lost my job during covid lockdown, and my children are hungry, but tonight they are going to bed with a smile even if they are hungry. We see the bigger picture that the Minister has in mind. We don't care for work or food, I cannot wait to see the people change all the road signs indicating that this great city of ours is now called Gqeberha. Now everything will get better, the Minister will organize that we get new roads here in Missionvale, they will build new houses for the people and they will also be able to get more people to invest in this City so that one day I can get a job again. We just have to be patient. This name change is all we needed"

As you can see the people of PE really craved this change to better their living circumstances, and are very grateful for the hard work the local government and Minister Nathi Mthetwa have done for them. People from PE are happy because there most certainly are not any better things elected officials could have been doing with their time.
